Retire Comfortably Knowing Your Daily Bread Has Been Provided

Proverbs 30:7-9; Matthew 6:11

Comfort in Retirement Is Knowing God

Soul Food

“Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die:

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”

- Proverbs 30:7-9 (NIV)

“Give us today our daily bread.”

- Matthew 6:11 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • Do you ever worry about retirement or are you sometimes anxious about it?
If so, is it because you don’t believe you have saved enough money to live comfortably on?

  • Can you live in the blessing of “Give me today my daily bread” or are you living in the worldly notion of “Give me today all the money I will need to live on for the next 20 or 30 years?”

  • Is your sense of security and contentment rooted in the size of your bank account and whether or not you think you’ll have enough to live on (and play with) for the remainder of your life?
This may beg the question of you: is it the money you trust in for your survival and well-being, or can you honestly say you trust in God to take care of you?
Would you still trust God even if the money was taken away?

Soul Moves

  • The Bible says in Psalm 55:22 to “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Ask God to show you how to cast your cares on Him.
It always begins with prayer – with simply talking to God about it.

  • If you are nearing retirement and don’t have enough money saved, you will get to have your faith stretched and will believe God for miracles with your finances – maybe more than other people.
This doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
Remember that this life as you know it is not your real life.
You won’t take anything from this world with you when you transition to the next life.

  • If you believe you have enough money in the bank for your retirement years, be careful not to put your faith in the money.
The Bible says in Proverbs 23:5, “Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.”
Ask God to help you put your faith in Him and not in your bank account.
