God Works His Plans and Purposes In Us Even When We Think That What We Are Doing Is For Someone Else's Benefit

John 11:4-7; 11-15

“When he heard this, Jesus said, ‘This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.’ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, and then he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go back to Judea.’

After he had said this, he went on to tell them, ‘Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.’

His disciples replied, ‘Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.’ Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

So then he told them plainly, ‘Lazarus is dead, and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.’”

• Have you ever encountered a situation so desperate that it drove you to tears?
  Can you talk about it?

• Have you gotten so desperate that you have prayed to God even though you weren’t sure you believed in Him or His ability to hear and answer prayer?
  If so, what happened?

• Do you believe it’s possible that God so cares about you believing in Him and having a relationship with Him that He will set you up (in the highest and best possible way) in order to do miracles that you will have a difficult time dismissing?
  Has anything like this ever happened to you?

• Be aware that God deems you so valuable that He writes you into His storyline.
  You’re that important to Him.

Soul Moves

• Be watching for situations and experiences where God can reveal Himself to you in power so that your faith in Him comes alive.
  Can you recall a time when God had you in a situation where He revealed Himself to you?

• Be especially aware of God setting you up in desperate situations where the only hope available is His miracle-working power.
  He sets up desperate situations so that you aren’t tempted to explain the remedy for the situation away due to ‘natural causes’ and discount His presence and power.

• Ask God to use you and involve you in impossible situations so that you can grow deeper in your faith when He intervenes and provides answers for the situation(s).

• Ask God to show you just how important you are to His storyline.
  Open your eyes and your ears to see the ways God has written you into His script.
