Yielding to Temptation Can Give You Quite The Haircut

I Corinthians 10:13

Soul Food

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

- I Corinthians 10:13

Soul Search

  • Have you ever found yourself being tempted to move away from something or someone that has been a consistent mainstay or anchor in your life in the hopes of finding someone or something better?
Can you share briefly about what or who you were tempted to move away from and what or who you were tempted to move toward?

  • If you did not yield to the temptation, why didn’t you?
If you did yield to the temptation, why did you and what happened afterward?

  • How strong do you see yourself when it comes to resisting temptation?
Do you believe the Bible when it says that God “won’t let you be tempted beyond what you can bear?
We often know our own weaknesses when it comes to resisting temptation, but do you sometimes think that God does allow temptations that seem ‘unbearable?’
Is it possible that as unbearable as some temptations seem, that God wants us to see how strong we really are in the face of those temptations?
Is it possible that He believes in us more than we believe in ourselves?

Soul Moves

  • Be careful to watch closely and see where temptations come from – where they originate.
The source can often tell us everything you need and/or want to know.

  • Examine the desires in you that are piqued or aroused by the temptation that comes at you.
Are the desires that are being aroused healthy, life-giving desires or are they unhealthy and ultimately destructive desires that will wreak havoc on you and those around you and the relationships you value most dearly?

  • Be real about the areas in you that have proven to be susceptible to temptation.
When you know what those areas are, then do whatever it takes to avoid people and places that will prey upon your weak and vulnerable areas.

  • Have one or two people in your life that you know you can trust and be vulnerable with them and ask them to hold you accountable in avoiding people and places that will trip you up and cause you to fall.
