Resist the Temptation To Get Involved In Conflicts You're Not Part Of

Proverbs 26:17

Stay away from conflicts that don't directly affect you; don't give up your peace unnecessarily

Soul Food

Like one who grabs a stray dog by the ears is someone who rushes into a quarrel not their own.

Soul Search

  • Can you recall a time when you got involved in a dispute that didn’t directly involve you?
Maybe it involved a relative or close friend who you felt you needed to stand up for?
    Can you talk about it?

  • Is there a scenario in which you believe you should get involved in a conflict that doesn’t directly have anything to do with you?
    Why or why not?

  • If there is a physical altercation, does that make a difference on whether or not you feel you should get involved?
    Why or why not?

  • Some people are more prone to get involved in disputes that don’t directly affect them.
Are you one of those people?
If so, why do you think that is?

Soul Moves

  • As it is appropriate, practice silence – especially if silence is not part of your nature - when everything in you wants to throw your two cents into a dispute.

  • Become aware of your role as one who can intercede spiritually through prayer in the face of a dispute.
You can be involved by asking God to be present and bring answers to those involved in the dispute.

  • Ask God to pour out His peace on you when you’re exposed to conflict around you.
It can be difficult to remain at peace when chaos is raining down around you but God can keep you in His perfect peace.
