When You’re ‘All In’ For God You Win No Matter What

“In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Soul Search

  • When you think of going ‘all in’ or going ‘all out’ for others, what does that mean to you?

  • How often have you gone all in or all out for a complete stranger?
Why do you think this is hard to do?

  • How often have you gone all in or all out for friends, family and people you know?
If it doesn’t happen very often (or at all) why doesn’t it?

  • Can you remember someone who came across your path in the past who you helped?
Is there someone in your life right now who needs your help?

  • Have you gone all in or is God pressing you to do more than you have?

Soul Moves

  • If you’re afraid of going ‘all in’ or going ‘all out’ drill down inside your heart with God’s help and ask Him to show you why.
It might not even take much drilling – often you know exactly why.

  • The good Samaritan didn’t hold back when it came to his earthly possessions.
    Do you?
    If so, why?

  • The good Samaritan also didn’t hold back on his time and energy to help the injured man.
Are you free with your time and your energy to help others?

  • Ask God in prayer to help you overcome your temptations and tendencies to hold back.
Ask Him for the faith and courage – and strength – to push all your chips to the center and go all in.
