When Confronted With Your Mortality, Don't Be Afraid

2 Timothy 4:6-8

Don't be afraid to die. Stare your mortality in the face and let it change the way you live and relate to people in wonderful ways.

Soul Food

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

- 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Soul Search

  • Have you or someone you know received a troubling medical diagnosis that calls into question just how much longer you might live?
How did you/they handle the news?

  • When you think of dying, what thoughts go through your mind?
Do you avoid thoughts of your mortality?
    If so, why?

  • If you received a medical diagnosis that your days were numbered, or if you were in a bad accident that threatened to cut your life short, in what ways would it change the ways you think and live?

Soul Moves

  • Search the Bible and talk to God about His plans for you after you die.
Because Jesus rose from the dead and was victorious over death, through relationship with Him, we, too, will be victorious over death.
There is a whole new life awaiting us when these mortal bodies stop working.

  • Talk to God about your mortality.
Give over to Him your fears about death.
By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, any fears about this physical body dying can and will be vanquished as you learn about your spiritual life that will never be destroyed.

  • Pray that God will help you live every day in the body you have as if it was your last day.
The positive side of looking your mortality in the face every day is that it changes how you see things and relate to people in really great ways.

  • Live each day knowing and remembering that you are dying.
You will begin to take very little for granted.
