Love Can Break Hearts But God Is Close To The Brokenhearted

Psalm 73.26 & Matthew 5.4

Let Tears Flow When You're Hurting; Tears Bring Healing and Cleansing

Soul Food

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

- Psalm 73:26 (NIV)

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

- Matthew 5:4 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • Can you recall any particularly painful times in life when you can say you really, truly experienced grief?
    Can you talk about them?

  • Is there a pattern to how you express grief?
If you’re someone who is not prone to crying, how does your grief typically manifest itself?

  • Are there situations you have gone through that were painful and grievous but that you have never really dealt with?
    What were they?
Do you know why you didn’t grieve those things at the time?

Soul Moves

  • Next time you’re moved to tears, don’t hold them back.
See if you can let the tears go and flow.
Tears are one sign of your soul “moving” or your soul being moved.

  • Ask God to counsel you by His Holy Spirit and bring understanding and insight to you about why you express grief (or not express grief – at least outwardly) the way you do.
Ask God if He is wanting to teach you how to handle grief and express it differently than you have in the past.

  • Ask God to help you “unpack” grief-producing experiences in your life.
It’s possible that there are things that were so hurtful to you that you stuffed them way far down inside and haven’t ever dealt with them.
Those things can be manifesting in negative ways in your life and God wants to bring healing that will have positive effects in your relationships.
