Let the Blue Streak Be Gone

Proverbs 17:27 & 18:6,7

Don't let your mouth get the best of you by spewing out the worst in you.

Soul Food

The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.”

– Proverbs 17:27 (NIV)

The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives.”

– Proverbs 18:6,7 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • How often do you use profanity or curse words?

  • How long have you used profanity?
Do you know why you started using profanity?

  • Can you think through what types of situations or circumstances trigger you to use profanity?

  • As difficult as it can be to control your words, what ideas do you have for being able to stop the unhealthy words from coming out of your mouth?

Soul Moves

  • Begin by asking God in prayer to help you stop using bad language.

  • Identify the situations where you most likely allow profanity to come from your mouth and be ready to exercise more control of your mouth in those situations.

  • Make yourself accountable to some of the people you’re closest to and give them permission to say something to you when you’re not watching your words as carefully as you should be.
