Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.

- I Kings 19:3,4 (NIV)

‘So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.’ But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’ And God said, ‘I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.’

- Exodus 3:10-12 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • Have you carried ideas and dreams about your life and what you would do and what you might accomplish?
Can you share what one or two of your hopes and dreams are?

  • Do you believe that your hopes and dreams are inspired by God?
    Why or why not?

  • Have your ideas and dreams come to pass?
If not, was it because you feel you weren’t given the right opportunities or is it because you didn’t take opportunities you were presented?

  • Do you short-change yourself by not believing you’re up to fulfilling tasks that are put in front of you?
Are you short-changing God’s plans by not believing in yourself or by not believing in God’s gifting and calling in your life?

Soul Moves

  • Ask God to show you whether or not the dreams and desires you have are inspired by Him.

  • Ask God to give you the confidence and courage to walk through doors that are open to you that you might feel unqualified (maybe you feel disqualified for some reason) to walk through.

  • Pay special attention to people that God might bring into your life to confirm and affirm His plans and purposes in your life.

  • Ask God to forgive you for not believing in Him to give you what you need to accomplish His purposes.
If you don’t believe in yourself, believe in God’s Spirit in you to do what needs to be done.
