Healthy Words Are The Sign Of A Healthy Heart

Matthew 12:35; 15:17-19; Proverbs 16:23

Does what comes out of your mouth reflect light or darkness in your soul?

Soul Food

Matthew 12:35

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.”

Matthew 15:17-19

“Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.”

Proverbs 16:23

“The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction.”

Soul Search

  • Are the words that come out of your mouth good or bad?

  • If the words out of your mouth are often “toxic” and unhealthy, why do you think that is?

  • Have you ever threatened anyone with your words – either directly to their face or behind their back?
Did you follow through with your threat(s)?
    Can you talk about it?

  • How do you think you can clean up your speech so that what comes out of your mouth is positive and life-giving?
Do you have the power to clean up your speech?

Soul Moves

  • According to the Bible, our words change when there is a heart change.
Ask God to change your words by first changing your heart.

  • What is it in your heart that you need God to change?

  • Ask God to change your heart so that your heart-change is clearly seen (and heard) by what comes out of your mouth.

  • Ask God to make you into a person whose words are so positive and life-giving that people want to be around you.
