Don't Shun God's Makeover; When He's Done With You You'll Look a Whole Lot Better

Proverbs 27:6 & Hebrews 4:12

When you're corrected by a friend, take it positively even though it can hurt.

Soul Food

Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

- Proverbs 27:6 (NIV)

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

- Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • How many people do you have in your life who will tell you the truth about you or about those you’re closest to even if it might be hurtful?

  • Does who you are, and how you carry yourself, foster an openness to “constructive criticism” where those around you feel they can speak the truth to you even if it might be hurtful?

  • Do you tend to live life on the defensive so that others can’t, or don’t feel free, to speak honestly to you?
Why do you think you are on the defensive?

Soul Moves

  • Read God’s Word – the Bible.
Allow the eternal Truths in it to challenge you and shape you.

  • As you read God’s Word, keep a notepad close by.
Write down those verses that present a challenge to how you live and what you think.
Be open to having God’s Holy Spirit change your heart and mind (and ultimately, to changing how you think and feel).

  • If you don’t like hearing things that might be hurtful (none of us do) look closely at why people might be hesitant to share things with you.
If you live on the defensive and give off vibes that tell people they can’t be honest with you, ask God to help change that about you.

  • Pray and ask God to make you open to receiving truths that make you a better person.
Allow God to give you a makeover – every day.
