When You Get the Short End of the Stick, Ask God To Show You The Size of His Army

“‘Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’

And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.’

- 2 Kings 6:16,17 (NIV)

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.

The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

- Deuteronomy 7:6-8 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • Do you have a situation - or situations - in your life where you feel the odds are stacked against you?
    What is the situation?

  • When you face difficult situations that you don’t believe you can ever come out on top of, what do you do?
Do you turn to God for help?

  • Do you have the faith (belief) in your heart that causes you to believe that God sees your situation and that He will intercede on your behalf to fight your battle(s)?

  • What are you most afraid of?
Do you believe God can deal a death blow to your fear(s)?

Soul Moves

  • Write out a list of the situations in life that overwhelm you and cause fear.
Begin to pray over those items on your list and ask God to open your eyes to the spiritual realm to help you see what He sees.

  • Turn to God in prayer when you face seemingly insurmountable odds in a given situation. Tell Him that you need Him to fight for you.

  • Where you lack the faith to believe that God can fight for you, ask Him to help you believe in His presence and divine power to win otherwise impossible battles.

  • Write out a list of the things that cause you to be afraid and one by one take them to the Lord in prayer. As He brings freedom from your fears, make a note of the date that you began to no longer be afraid.
Keep that list of answered prayers so that you can look back and see how God was faithful to answer your prayers.
