You Can Search For Pleasure And Ultimate Fulfillment but You Won't Find it Without God

Soul Food

“A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without Him, who can eat or find enjoyment?”

- Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • How often do you think about God?

  • Does He enter into your day-to-day thinking or are thoughts of Him less frequent than that?

  • Why do you think Solomon would say that without God you “can’t eat and find enjoyment?”

  • What kinds of things do you find enjoyable?

  • Are those things as enjoyable if you are consciously aware that God is watching you?

  • Is it possible that God can bring a kind of enjoyment through His presence in your daily life that you are unaccustomed to?

  • Do you struggle with seeing God as One who puts a wet blanket over the things you find enjoyment in?

  • Is it possible that God is wanting to bring you closer to the things He created you to find enjoyment in and farther away from things that you enjoy but that He knows will ultimately hurt you?

Soul Moves

"Does your heart – that deep-seated ‘voice’ inside you – tell you that some things you find enjoyment in are not so good for you?

If it does, your ‘soul move’ today is to start listening to that voice, allow it to become louder, and then make decisions about where you find enjoyment and what you might need to let go of. "

"Ask God to give you a desire for a relationship with Him.

Ask for His help to pick up the Bible – and start reading or listening to it.

Some people enjoy hearing God’s Word and find that more enjoyable than reading. Either way it gets God’s ideas and plans for your enjoyment into your mind and heart. "
