Take Time for Rest & Fun

Exodus 20:8-11 & Matthew 11:28,29

Rejuvenation comes through rest and fun

Soul Food

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant or livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

- Exodus 20:8-11 (NIV)

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.…

- Matthew 11:28,29 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • Very few people have friends who own airplanes and Maserati’s.
However, there are many, many ways to rest and have fun that don’t require lots of money – or any money at all.
When is the last time you can say you had great rest and good fun?
    What did you do?

  • There are healthy ways to have fun and relax and there are unhealthy (immoral and destructive) ways to have fun and relax.
Are the ways that you seek fun and relaxation healthy, moral and constructive?
    If not, why not?

  • Most people in western society seem to be almost hopelessly glued to their cell phones, digital watches, and tablets.
You might find time on-line relaxing, but the big question is: is that time you spend productive and/or constructive?
List the things you watch or the games you play when you’re on-line.
    Are they healthy?
Be courageous with your list and be realistic about your answers.

Soul Moves

  • List healthy and productive ways you can relax and have fun.

  • Consider any unhealthy ways that you relax and have fun.
Do you have the strength of character and moral fortitude to stop those things that aren’t healthy?
Ask God to show you what He knows is not good for you and ask Him for His help to stop those things.

  • Ask for someone’s help to keep you accountable for doing healthy and constructive things to relax and have fun.
Build trust and relationship with your spouse by being honest about your need for accountability.
Find a best friend who you trust and can be honest with.

  • Practice separating yourself from your cell phone and/or tablet.
Learn to live hours at a time without them.
