Soul Food

Psalm 18:27

“You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.”

Proverbs 3:34

“He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.”

I Peter 5:5,6

“In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”

Soul Search

  • Can you remember a time when you had to make a conscious choice to exercise humility?
Or, can you remember a time when humility was forced upon you by a challenging circumstance?

  • Can you remember a time when your pride got you into trouble?
What happened and what did that look like?

  • Do you recall a time when you were humble in your approach to something or someone and the favor and blessing of God was manifested?

  • Humility can be seen by some as a weakness and further the lie that “nice guys finish last.”
Do you struggle with the concept of humility as showing others your weakness rather than your strength?

Soul Moves

  • Humility is rewarded by God.
His power and strength are manifested in those who are humble.
Ask Him to sow this truth into your soul.

  • Ask God to show you where your pride stands in the way of humility.
Ask God to deal with your pride but be aware it will be painful.

  • Determine that you do not want God to oppose you because of your pride.
Ask for His forgiveness for your pride and arrogance and to teach you how to live and walk in humility.

  • Ask God to teach you how humility is more powerful than pride and the demonstration of human/worldly strength.
