Give Up The Chase For Anything Other Than God Himself

Hosea 2:7-8

Know who or what has your heart and determine not to allow anyone or anything else to hold your heart except God Himself

Soul Food

“She (God’s people, Israel) will pursue her lovers but not catch them;
she will seek them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will return to my first husband, for then I was better off than now.’ For she does not acknowledge that it was I who gave her grain, new wine, and oil, who lavished on her silver and gold—which they crafted for Baal.”

- Hosea 2:7,8

Soul Search

  • What things (it could be a person or people) tend to take your focus off God and distract you from the things that God would want you to be paying attention to?
    Can you talk about what those things were – or are?

  • Has there been a time in your life when you chased after something(s) to the detriment of your relationship with God?

  • What caused you to make God your priority?
    What does making God a priority look like to you?

Soul Moves

  • Consider devoting a certain amount of time each day to prayer and reading God’s Word. It doesn’t have to be lengthy.
    Begin by making any amount of time a priority and grow that time by increments along the way.

  • Ask God to give you the strength to let go of things that are distractions to you as it relates to your relationship with God.

  • If something has control of your time and attention in such a way as it detracts from your relationship with God, make intentional moves to limit the amount of time and attention you give to those things.
    Ask someone to help keep you accountable to letting go of the things that distract you.
