Forgive As Your Father Has Forgiven You

Matthew 6:9-15

Forgiveness will bring healing to the relationships that have been broken by sin

Soul Food

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

- Matthew 6:9-15 (NIV)

Soul Search

  • Has someone that you have had a strained relationship with reached out to you to get together?
Did you agree to meet with them?

  • If you did agree to meet with them, why?
If you did not agree to meet with them, why not?

  • Is God putting someone on your heart to reach out to that you have had a strained relationship with?

  • Do you trust God to give you the courage and strength you need to make that call?
What keeps you from making the call?

Soul Moves

  • Pay attention and give heed to God putting people in your thoughts (even in your dreams) who you need to reconcile with.

  • Ask God to give you what you need to make the call.
Ask Him to give you what you need to span the gap between you and them – that gap could be time, distance, money, lost contact info, etc. – so that you can get with them and reconcile.

  • Remember that reconciling does not mean you’re going to necessarily be friends or have a relationship again.
Rather, it means that the ‘strain’ that was in your relationship has been dealt with even if you don’t see each other again.
