Correction Can Hurt But The Peace That Comes Is Worth It

Proverbs 15:32 & Hebrews 12:11

Don't throw a fit over correction; take the correction and learn from it. You'll be a better person for it.

Soul Food

Proverbs 15:32

“Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.”

Hebrews 12:11

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Soul Search

  • Can you recall any times in your life when you were held accountable and corrected for doing something bad or for not doing a good job?
Can you share one or two examples?

  • Do you remember who held you accountable?
At the time how did you feel about them?

  • Looking back, did you learn anything from the attempt at correction and if so, what did you learn?
Did you wisely take the correction or did you push back and reject it?

  • How do you handle accountability and correction today?
Would you say your pride gets in the way of correction or would you say your humility opens the door to it?

Soul Moves

  • We all need outside help (God) to assist us in learning from correction.
Ask God to teach you how to receive correction in the way He wants you to.

  • If you can think back to a time (or times) you were held accountable for something and an attempt at correction was made but didn’t go so well because of you, ask God to teach you and to bring correction now.
It’s never too late to learn and to let correction do its good work in you.

  • None of us like to be held accountable or be corrected when we’ve messed up or done a bad job.
We don’t like the bad stuff being called out.
Ask God to help you not close your ears, eyes, or heart to correction but rather to embrace it as one eager to improve and get better by it.

  • Seek peace in your life so that it benefits not only you but those around you.
See correction as the pipeline of peace that comes when you receive it and don’t try to block it.
